RAOK Unit 9D Evaluation of the Editing
|
9D.P8
|
explain (give reasons for) which
editing techniques you used,
(Beat Editing, Match on Action, Continuity,
Fast Paced, 30 seconds, Is it Creative? non linear, alternative editing like
montage or jump cuts, fast forward effects?)
|
|
|
Why you think they worked well
(youth audience, viral, special effects, clear narrative gets the message
across, holds interest, unusual, looks like a music video?)
|
|
|
Why are these techniques suitable?
|
|
|
Which techniques were successful
based on your peer feedback?
|
|
9D.M7:
|
analyse (the meaning or purpose of)
the editing techniques you used, (appealing to youth audience, creating interest,
getting message across)
|
|
|
Give examples of specific techniques
and transitions, include screen grabs if preferred
|
|
|
How skilfully/how well have you used them (are they effective or do
they look like editing mistakes? Does it flow, look professional?)
|
|
9D.D5
|
Evaluate (both the strengths and
weaknesses)
Which techniques and transitions worked well? in terms of the intention/purpose of the video (the message of the campaign,
engaging young people 16-25, make the campaign go viral)
|
|
|
Which did not? in terms of the intention/purpose of the video (the message of the campaign,
engaging young people 16-25, make the campaign go viral) and
|
|
|
How successfully you fulfilled the
brief based on editing (what you would improve, what extent did it do its
job?)
|
|
9D.L1P8

· You have summarised what only you believe are the strengths in your
work.
· You do not consider the opinions of your feedback
· This lacks reasons for why you think these are strengths

Ident production research
2A.P1 and 2A.P2:
develop an idea for a digital media product through carrying out
relevant research activities
|
All Research is carried out, but not fully
explored or used.
The chosen idea has been developed/improved but will lack depth or detail.
Research activities include some consideration of existing idents
and
formats,
at least one
example of audience research, such as a survey monkey questionnaire or
focus group.
|
2A.M1 and 2A.M2
develop an idea for a digital media product through carrying out a
series of research activities which provide a deeper exploration than at
2A.P2
|
The chosen idea is clearly defined and developed
to consider the finer details, e.g. about colours and logo design,
It shows evidence of creative decisions and revisions made during the development.
Research activities will include consideration
of existing digital media products,
formats
and
audience research, (for example questionnaires and focus groups).
research is purposeful and
you have used
the findings to shape a suitable idea for production.
|
For 2A.D1:
develop an idea for production through carrying out a thorough series
of research activities.
|
The chosen idea is very well defined and visualised clearly through detailed development,
with justifications for creative decisions and
revisions
Research activities will include thoughtful analysis of existing digital media products
and formats, past, present or new
examples of the chosen product, and
audience research where results are reliable and methods are wide
ranging, (focus groups, online questionnaires, social network responses.)
Conclusions can be drawn from the research to support and shape an imaginative idea
for production.

9.D
Evaluation of the edit
|
9D.P8
|
·
You have explained (given
reasons for) which editing techniques you used,
·
which were successful based
on your peer feedback, and
·
why they think they
worked well
·
why they were suitable You have
completion of a single camera short film production which shows some application
of techniques to produce a coherent narrative. The cinematography relies on
overlong sequences with little shot variation to tell the story. Editing
techniques are basic and rely on cuts which do not create continuity or pace
or create tension. There is little experimentation with camera camera angles.
Lighting uses only natural light and doesn't generate generic mood or
meaning. You have completion of a single camera short film production which

9D.M7:
|
·
You have analysed (the
meaning or purpose of) the editing techniques you used,
·
Why they were successful
in terms of peer feedback, and
·
which techniques you
feel worked well.
You have given examples
of specific
·
techniques and
transitions and
·
how skilfully/how well
you used them.
|
|
9D.D5
|
·
You have evaluated (both
the strengths and weaknesses) of
·
which techniques and
transitions worked well, and
·
which did not, in terms
of:
·
the intention/purpose of
the video (the message of the campaign, engaging young people 16-25, make the
campaign go viral) and
·
how successfully you
fulfilled the brief (what you would improve, what extent did it do its job?)
For example: ‘If I had cut that scene where the character runs out
of shot, it would have been more emotional’ or ‘this
dissolve works really well as it takes the viewer into the next
scene’.
|
|
|
|
9D.L1P8
|
·
You have summarised what
only you believe are the strengths in your work.
·
You do not consider the opinions
of your feedback
·
This lacks reasons for why
you think these are strengths
·
and/or consideration of the intentions of the brief
|
3.C Evaluation of RAOK
|
3C
Evaluation of the video
(shoot, edit, idea)
|
9C.P5
|
·
You have explained (given
reasons how and why) how your moving image production has fulfilled the brief
(get across message of pass it on,
target 16-25 year olds, make it go viral) and
·
met its purpose.
·
You have explained why
the production worked well and
·
where there are areas
for improvement,
·
using general rather
than detailed examples.
|
|
|
9C.M5
|
·
You have analysed
(examined and considered how or why) how your moving image production has
fulfilled the brief (get across message
of pass it on, target 16-25 year olds, make it go viral) and
·
met its purpose (in what
ways is it effective , did it work well?).
·
As well as analysing why
the production worked well, you also
·
pinpoint specific areas
for improvement and
·
Judge, consider or
examine how far the brief and purpose have been met by your video (as suggested
by your client, peers or target audience).
·
You may have detailed comments on specific camerawork or editing
skills as examples (suggested by your client, peers or target audience).
|
|
|
3C.D5:
|
·
You have evaluated (strengths
and weaknesses of) the choices made during your moving image production and
·
Discuss how those
choices have enabled you to fulfil the brief and purpose of the campaign. (get across message of pass it on, target
16-25 year olds, make it go viral)
·
You have pinpointed
crucial parts of the video you decided to include which led to success
(specific shots, angles or mise-en-scene or music),
·
You reflect on areas for
improvement and
·
Discuss how your
original intentions (what you wanted to do) may have been revised by the
practicalities of time, budget, permissions, resources etc (what you were
able to do)
|
|
|
3C.L1P5:
|
·
You have summarised what
you consider to be the best parts of the production and
·
Summarised why.
·
The evaluation is very
descriptive and
·
contains many one-sided comments
that do not consider weaknesses or feedback, and
·
are not evidenced in the
video

Unit 3.C Produce a digital moving image production RAOK
|
Unit 3C
RAOK shoot & edit
|
3C.P4:
|
·
You have completed a shoot
to produce footage that is appropriate so the video makes sense and shots get
across meaning.
·
Your shots are framed
correctly but
·
there is only one set up
per scene.
·
Because of this editing
is also basic but enough to get across the story and purpose of the video.
|
|
|
3C.M4
|
·
You have completed a shoot
to produce footage that is effective in conveying meaning (story, message,
characters) through camerawork and
mise en scène.
·
Your shots are framed correctly
and
·
the positioning of the
camera is well thought out and
·
there is more than one
camera set-up per scene.
·
You have used mise-en
scène in terms of the setting
·
and/or the performers selected and their costume.
·
The editing is effective
because you have more than one camera set-up and uses the footage well.
|
|
|
3C.D4
|
·
You have completed a shoot
to produce creative footage, which conveys meaning (story, message,
characters) through camerawork and mise en scène intentionally with some confidence and purpose.
·
Your shots are framed correctly
and positioned in an interesting manner
·
There is use of movement
and
·
several camera set-ups
·
mise en scène is well thought out in terms of meaning of the setting,
·
and/or costume,
·
and/or props
·
and/or actors
performance.
·
The editing is creative (continuity
techniques such as match on action, alternative techniques, beat editing,
fast forward, special effects, use of transitions across shots) as a result
of several camera set-ups and make full use of all the available footage.
